I did the set photography for this movie.

Age of the Dragons is a re-imagining of Herman Melville's classic novel Moby Dick. Set in a mythical realm where Captain Ahab and crew hunt dragons for the vitriol that powers their world, Ishmael, a charismatic harpooner joins their quest. Ahab's adopted daughter Rachel, beautiful and tough, runs the hunting vessel. Ahab's obsession is to seek revenge on a great "White Dragon" that slaughtered his family when he was young and left his body scarred and mauled, drives the crew deeper into the heart of darkness. In the White Dragon's lair Ahab's secrets are revealed and Rachel must choose between following him on his dark quest or escaping to a new life with Ishmael. Written by M Daines

Working on set there was very few days with Dragons. So for most of the scenes the actors had to act like there was a dragon there. They green screen the dragon in. The film was shot in Utah- during the winter. What was funny is there was a ship they had that sail through the forest. On this journey for " the White Dragon".

I did the still photography for this film shot in Utah. Here is a quick synposis of this film.
Plot Outline
Who decides what is normal? A unique love story about friendship and a view of the world from different perspectives, WAITING FOR FOREVER explores the connections people make in the face of life's changes. Best friends while they were growing up, Emma (Rachel Bilson) and Will (Tom Sturridge) lost touch a long time ago—as far as she knows. John Ramsey, "The Other Side of Suffering" Father Tells Story of JonBenet Ramsey

This is one of the most interesting assignments of my life was photography John Ramsey for the book cover of his new book " The Other side of Suffering". Before shooting him I did a lot of research. I remember the story and when this came out when I was child 14 years ago. In my research it really was striking how sad and how much press this case got. My impression "freak tragedy glorified over and over by the media". The story of six-year-old, Jon Benét, was murdered; Ramsey was the one who discovered her body, concealed in the basement of his family's home. He was suspected of murdering his daughter by the press. This book is his opportunity to set the record straight.

It was very awkward for me to meet this complete stranger, famous for the tragedies in his life and capture that. What do you say. What is appropriate ? We went out to the desert to several different locations until the sun had set. He was very kind and sincere. I applaud him in his recovery and hope the best for him.

Fire Lanterns in Brooklyn New York

I was Brooklyn for business and I was staying with my good Friends and they live in the tallest building in Brooklyn. So going to the roof is incredible. No need to fight the lines at the Empire State building to see the skyline. We decided to hang out there enjoy some wine and these people were lighting these Fire Lanterns and letting them float off the building. I happened to have my camera and tripod because I wanted to get some nighttime shots of the city. I wouldnt mind playing more with these fire lanterns more. Can't do that in Texas right now with the Fire Ban. Boo wild fires!

Homeless Alien, a Photo Story

Alienation is defined as:
al·ien·a·tion/ˌālēəˈnāSHən/Noun
1. Isolation from a group or an activity to which one should belong or in which one should be involved.
2. Loss or lack of sympathy

Alien Nation conveys the feelings of separation and disconnection in society. How strange our culture would appear to such an outsider. The imagery encourages reflection upon our social conditioning and paradigm.
Its an interesting social commentary and question about the homeless. Why would you choose to be homeless? Everyone has their own opinions on what it means to be homeless. Ideas like: " These people are drug addicts, alcoholics, veterans, lazy, convicts, retards, handicap.. and etc". It can be all those things. There is actually a huge number of battered woman and children on the street.

Shooting the project has been its own sort of adventure. We went downtown and wondered around for a while. It was definitely a social experiment. Some people would ignore the big elephant on the street with a camera crew others would sit & gawk/ point and laugh, teenagers would get their pictures taken with the Alien. There was this ritzy party going on at an affluent hotel downtown. People saw us walking and insisted that we come inside to mingle at this black tie affair. As soon as we walked in this older man shewed us away like we were infected peasants. It was very strange - they invited us in and uninvited us just as quickly. Later we met some transient folks at the mall who were very nice. The woman said " ohh you just like us!" She let Alien sit by them and she played some music soon we had a crowd of 40 people around us on double levels watching clapping wondering. It was good business for our transient friends and they made some money for their travels. Soon security came and insisted that we leave or take off the mask.

This is one set of my social Alienation series.

Actor/Model James Christian Morris is the Alien. He is a method actor all the way. He even has his own Alien Language- that I of course understand. He is so passionate and dives into any role he participates in. He's been in numerous films, magazines and publications. Its alot of fun doing this with James.

Animal Use or Animal Abuse. Rooster’s nature to Fight- Cockfighting

Recently we photographed Danny Rogers & his birds; he is a bird wrangler, He raises and cares for all sorts of animals- specifically Roosters and Racing Pedigree Pigeons in Lockhart Texas. He raises the birds and sales them worldwide. It is illegal to fight roosters across the states. The word on the street is that it still happens in small towns and on Indian Reservations in the states.
He was recently featured on ESPN about Cockfighting. Rogers was under the impression when working with ESPN that they would show his part of the story. However they were focused on abuse of the birds.
Rogers breeds the birds, feeds them, cares for them then sales them. He complains that when the humane society or the animal activist groups seize the birds during an underground cockfight than they euthanize the birds. So instead of the birds have a fighting chance to live they are killed by the humane society.
"I can take this animal right here and kill him and eat it and nobody even thinks anything about it," said Rogers. "But, if I give him a fighting chance I'm some kind of weird type of person."

My experience with Roosters was to let the professional handle them or else I would get pecked! They are feisty but they sure are pretty.
Its ironic that the birds have so much aggression and are so popular as art – kitchen art around the world.

What is Cockfighting?
The combatants, referred to as gamecocks, are specially bred birds, conditioned for increased stamina and strength. Cocks possess congenital aggression toward all males of the same species. Cocks are given the best of care until near the age of two years old. They are conditioned, much like professional athletes prior to events or shows. Wagers are often made on the outcome of the match. While not all fights are to the death, the cocks may endure significant physical trauma. The birds are equipped with either metal spurs (called gaffs) or knives, tied to the leg in the area where the bird's natural spur has been partially removed. A cockspur is a bracelet (often made of leather) with a curved, sharp spike which is attached to the leg of the bird. The spikes typically range in length from "short spurs" of just over an inch to long spurs almost two and a half inches long.
Cockfighting- goes back in time The sport was popular in ancient times in India, China, Persia, and other Eastern countries and was introduced into Greece in the time of Themistocles (c. 524–460 BC). It is still popular in Peru, Mexico, Brazil, Southeast Asia, Pakistan and the Philippines islands.

We offer multiple areas of subspecialty expertise through cutting-edge diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology, vascular care and surgery.
The people in these ads are real folks who are affected by varicose veins. It was an interesting experiencing learning more about the process and the demographic that needs help. Both of the woman spend time on their feet all day. Which seems to be one of the triggers.
Some facts I learned:
Women develop varicose veins nearly four times as often as men. In fact, about 70% of adult women get varicose veins at some time in their lives. Some women are at greater risk due to heredity. Others are likely to get spider veins because of lifestyle.
Women who are pregnant or use oral contraceptives are at risk for varicose veins. So are women who experience an increase in estrogen, which is believed to weaken vein walls. Overweight women often get spider veins because they're more likely to develop circulatory problems, diabetes or heart disease. All of these conditions hinder bloodflow to the heart.
Standing for long periods of time also increases the risk of getting spider veins. That’s because it's harder for veins to fight gravity and return blood to the heart. Those who wear high-heeled shoes can stress leg veins by forcing their calf muscles to contract more than usual.
Risk factors for varicose veins include:
• Heredity
• Occupations that involve a lot of standing
• Obesity
• Hormonal influences during pregnancy
• Use of oral contraceptives
• Post-menopausal hormone replacement
• Prolonged sitting with legs crossed
• History of blood clots
• Medical conditions such as tumors and constipation that may increase intra-abdominal pressure
• Externally worn garments such as girdles that may increase intra-abdominal pressure

Travel the world, take pictures and make money is the Dream manifested to reality. Awesome. :)
These images were actually taken for fun- the money came later. Returning to Awe/ Wonder; is what got me into photography in the first place. This is fun!
When I did my research about traveling to Costa Rica and bringing my camera gear everywhere I read and people I spoke with said that the thief was absurd. Basically expect to have your belongings stolen. So the whole time I was on hyper sensitive & alert about my equipment. Really uncomfortable, the gear is heavy and lets face it photographers backs are all screwed up anyways. I ended up taking my "big" camera out on hikes.

I have found that the more I travel, the more I want to travel. As a photographer it is imperative for your vision to be expanded continuously - find inspiration around the corner.
I will have a beach house there one day. Go on holiday :)

The locals have a saying- Pura Vida! Pura vida literally means Pura = pure and vida = life, but "Pure life" in Spanish would be "Vida pura" instead, so the real meaning is closer to "plenty of life", "full of life", "this is living!", "going great", "real living", or "cool!" It can be used both as a greeting and a farewell, to express satisfaction, to politely express indifference when describing something or even to say "thank you". The vibration of this place translates this no matter what language you speak. Use hand signals and say " pura vida" with a smile nodding your head, you'll do fine. "Oh, Smile for the Camera, yeah yeah"

Alien The Douche bag
This is a personal project " Alien the Douche Bag" about Social Alienation, Im doing in collaboration with Special effects makeup artist Chris Hansen, and Actor/Model James Christian Morris and Filmmakers Bert & Tiger with One Shot Presents.

Theme- Social Alienation in different gradients of culture, social economic status’s, and social disorientation, caused to be unloved, isolated excluded. ~Hostility- the feeling of being alienated from other people ~Separation resulting from hostility ~ To cause to become withdrawn or unresponsive; isolate or dissociate. Being Socially awkward out of place.

I started this series while I was covering the Sundance Film Festival. This is the one of the few times a year that I do press coverage. Which is alot different then my normal photography. Im used to a Studio environment with folks and having control or on a movie set where im the only photographer verses being part of a press line with 30 photographers demanding the attention of celebrity X. Doing the press lines and also watching how people react to celebrities is quite fascinating to me. Crowds of people gather with their cameras and follow these celebrities around. It's crazy. Constantly during the festival I have patrons asking me where they can spot a celebrity like they are this endangered species in the wild of Park City. So I had Alien the Douche bag created and did my own social experiment walking around famous Main Street to see how people react. We pretended to be with a film and handed fliers. We had crowds surround us. So many people approached Alien to get their picture taken. Alien got free swag from different sponsors- here wear this. We also walked into parties unannounced and with no credentials with no problem because we had Alien. It was quite fun and there will be more of Alien so stay tuned.

This assignment the client allowed me to geek out and get my art on. Which was fun. These industrial photos are each segments in the ATM Housing process ( the shell with bank logo ). I did the environmental portraits outside of the assignment. The manufacture plant is in Salt Lake City and they ship their products across the country. So my job is to cover the manufacture process as well as photograph ATM's across the country on location, at banks, grocery stores, malls and etc. It was a refreshing job quite different then making up models, and catering to the politics of actors on movies. Instead there was language barriers as well as breathing barriers. I had to wear a mask and take frequent breaks for fresh air. It was like being on NPR or This American Life for the day and learn about this process and people. Thats one of my favorite things about photography- all access pass to the Universe!

Marinello Schools of Beauty- Competition

Three of Marinello Schools of Beauty came together and competed for the "Best" Hair Makeup & Nails. A day of beauty & chaos- competiton was steep. My job was was to cover the process and also shoot their work. It was a 12 hour day of working with 110 stylists and 110 Talent. Wo! It was fun and I was very impressed with what these folks could do finishing up with school. I have worked with quite a number of professional seasoned stylists and I gotta say that these graduating students have some talent! Flashes of Hope is a national nonprofit organization that changes the way children with cancer see themselves through the gift of photography and raises money for pediatric cancer research.The portraits, help children feel better about their changing appearance by celebrating it. For families of terminally ill children, it's especially important to have a portrait that preserves forever the beauty, grace and dignity of their child. I have photographed 1,000's of kids in my day and these kids were like any other kids. It was refreshing to see them up toned and having fun at their summer camp. Kids aren't nearly as serious as adults. Not a care in the world. My problems don't seem so big.

Super fun shoot, there was 15 folks there, a Snake, a DJ and we had an alternative purpose that we were there for; however with the ingredients: a Snake, a bunch of hippies how could one resist. Project Joy; Soulhouette I love what I do

This is a 140 Second video that I orchestrated for the Nikon Contest for best "Day in the life". Funny enough we had 5 photographers on the crew and another 30 other people that participated in one way or another to make this possible. The song " I love what I do" was a collaboration I did with Musician Aaron Terry AKA Lootchiano four years ago, inspired by my logo "I love what I do". We shot this the first day I had my new studio. So that was exciting :)

My day is about that perfect day where life-changing decisions are made.

Mel The Mountain Man

What comes to mind when you hear the phrase Mountain Man? Someone who lives on the land and is well versed in living organically I suppose. Mel is popular with artists from painters, to sculptors, to photographers. Mels presence in his element is his own. He has a few buffalo heads hanging around the cabin. He raves about his buffalo Chile he makes from 15 year old frozen meat. He also jokes that I should go running and he'll catch me with a lasso. Im not 5 years old don't think that would be fun :)

I am collaborating with Architects of Imagination AOI; on their series "Hell Hole" to create press photos for the series. I will also be doing the scene stills during production. The basic Synopsis is this couple moves into this new neighborhood and the entrance to Hell is in their Yard. The husband become friends with the devil which eventually puts a fork into his marriage. It is a comedy. Filming starts this weekend.

This was a fun shoot which was a combo of stills and podcast video for Araine Borg at Studio Salons. She used Kevin Murphy products on all of the talent along with her makeup line Beauty by Nature. I have worked with alot of hair and makeup lines and I was fairly impressed with the product lines. The talent Lacy Rachelle, Shae Duggar and Brian Kelly were all amazing talent. Araine is an amazing stylist/ makeup artist. She has been doing my hair for the past few years. She reminds of Edward Scizzerhands making art. I am always lifted after leaving her salon. Mattie & Carrie, is a short film Directed and produced by Thomas Cassetta.

The basic synopsis:

Its a story about a Grandmother and Granddaughter. The Grandmother is battling with the edge of Alzheimer's Disease. The family is up at Character Matties house to celebrate a family wedding. Mattie & Carrie decide to go out in the woods and end up getting lost into the night. The family frantically searches for them. Alas at the end it is clear that Mattie is stuck in a time continuum and is unaware of present time. The production journal can be found at http://blog.scopicstudios.net/

I traveled to Colorado to be on the production crew. We filmed in Evergreen Colorado which is a beautiful peaceful mountain town. During production I was recovering from a broken foot. I was on crutches traveling through the woods up and down mountains. Its intense what my body has gone through for this career as a photographer. I was quite handy with the crutches even when we were filming at night. Everyone on set was very helpful with carrying my gear and cracking jokes about my injury. However dodging steady cam man, the focus puller and sound guy was rough. Its like an obstacle course in the dark enhanced with a broken foot. Ha ha.

I was very impressed with the two leads Cathy Washburn as MATTIE, McKyley Bork as CARRIE. The film is very sweet and reminds me how short life really is.

Fashion is so funny to me but it looks flipping cool. I suppose if I was a stylist I would come up with all these wacky ideas for photos. It was a fun event- stage lighting so super difficult to shoot in. I would call these fine art ha :)

My client Aesthetic Video Source does instructional videos for beauty professionals around the world. I've worked with them for a few years doing the stills for the videos. You could say I get quite the beauty education seeing and being apart of the process. Putting eyelashes on takes FOREVER and a day! One eye lash at a time. Wow. It literally looks like surgery or what I would imagine the attention to small small details would be. My favorite lashes are the multicolored ones. So fun! The girls have 2-3 weeks of beautiful lashes before they must get fillers.
Eyes are truly fascinating and beautiful. Each person's eye is a sea of color & dimension. I have photographed numbers of eyes in my day. Pigeons People. In pigeon racing the colors of the eye, circles and so on mean different things about the bird. The Pigeon racing connoisseur can tell if this bird is a breed to be a champion bird. How funny would it be if humans were scaled the same way. This one fine Bird(girl). I guess you could call me a pretty bird specialist. Ha Ha :)
I love the crew. We have a great time. One of guys was drinking Pepsi with Tobassco and claimed that was happiness. No, no no thats Cokes claim.

Sundance Film Festival 2009

So it was fun and a lot of foot work covering the festival. Park City turns into this different place, parking is impossible, people are everywhere looking to spot any celebrity. While I'm running around assignment to assignment all over the town. I covered movie premiers, panels, parties, & forums. I only saw a handful of movies that were very interesting. This short film Rite was so beautifully done and so creepy.

When I did see a celebrity on the street it was utter madness that helped with spotting. There is a swarm of people, paparazzi, teens running after this person to see them. That's gotta do something for your ego. It was more interesting for me to watch this swarm then to be a participant in it.
I did meet alot of very interesting people from around the world. The epic of story telling is obviously the underline theme of the festival but I think people get far to caught up in the hype. In between assignments one night I hung out with this Band Dolphin City and they were alot of fun. Good music. They had a number one fan there making out with each of them.

The inauguration was going on during the festival. Sundance had an event on main street that people attended. That for me was one of the coolest things I covered. The whole nation is watching. People are emotional. Times are changing.

So would I do it again? Yes, I actually will want to be on the side of submitting a film. I already have my speech suedo ready (saw SO many). I would also have a few more things in my tool belt. I do know what to expect now.

Waiting for Forever

This is a recent film I worked on in the Salt Lake Valley as the set Still Photographer. It was a 23 day shot which feels like 46 days because of the hours you work by the end. As a set photographer I have accepted my role as "in the way" " in the reflection" "in the eye line". It feels like walking on egg shells which naturally one my talents isn't grace so this was something I had to be hyper conscience about. The Director James Keach is one of the most kind directors I have worked with. If there was simply no room for me and they wanted stills James would run the scene again for me which startled me the first day. I'm used to ninja gorilla style PR photography on set. So that was refreshing. I guess thats the price you have to pay for movie lighting.
By the end of the shot I am physically, mentally exhausted and highly emotional. A long day is now reference to a 19 hour day! A few days before the end, we were doing this daddy dying scene and I had a difficult time being there comfortably. The acting was so natural that I got all chocked up and had to walk off set. I've never had that experience on set. After the shot it takes me a few weeks to adjust back to real time with the normal rhythm of my life.

The story is interesting. The lead Will Donner is in his pajamas the entire film. Which makes life easy for wardrobe! His character is endearing as you follow him along. Tom Sturridge is a fun actor to watch when its his moment. All in all we had a talented dynamic crew & fantastic cast.
The film is about young man Will Donner (Tom Sturridge) who's happily unemployed and heads to Hollywood to spend the rest of his life with a 25-year-old actress who also happens to be his childhood girlfriend Emma Twist (Bilson). Nikki Blonsky and Blythe Danner have also been cast in the film. The film is directed by James Keach.

Red Canyon, Movie releases

Out of thousands of photographs from this movie they chose this one for the cover. This image was shot inside this cave that was simulating a meth lab in southern Utah in the middle of nowhere. Did I mention this movie changed my life in the retrospec that I will never be the same. Anyone that worked on that film is bonded for life. When asked about the experience one's eyes look up and over and they get lost in trying to explain the Loco experience in the desert. I can't watch scary movies after working on many. Ahh...

American Mall, MTV movie

American Mall- the newest musical produced by the producers of High School Musical and MTV. The film was shot completely in Utah at the Provo Mall of all places in the middle of winter. The movie is about a girl who wants to follow her dreams as a musician or follow the practical path of business that her mom recommends. Along the way she meets this hunk who falls in love with her. He gets distracted by a lovely lady who can make all his dreams come true.
The first day of set I got stuck in a blizzard and was a few hours late. I along with a few other photographers did the production stills for American Mall.
It was fun working on set. During lunch I would grab some of the camera guys and play with the musical instruments. It didn't sound that fantastic but it was a fun time.

American Mall premiered on MTV Aug 11th, DVD's available on Aug 12th.

Here is a music video that was created that was fun. It's funny that this 3 minute music video was a 16 hour day. This song is permanently embedded in my sub conscience.

This is my younger sister Amy. Isn't she so cute & adorable! I love to do pregnancy photos simply because woman just cant stand it most of the time. Later I always hear " Oh I wish I would of done those photos". Its part of the process the experience of birth. Of course your going to gain a few pounds. I say this as an Aunty Natty who has watched several of my sisters go through the process. There is a time for everything.
There is something so endearing about a pregnant women. They have a glow, they are always making noises, and they are so highly sensitive to everything. I usually don't have that much time to work with them. As a photographer I encourage woman to get fun, cute, sexy, pregnancy photos that represents them and this chapter of life.

I photographed this event seating from at least 20 different angles on the ground, in the air. The client SGA wrote me this nice letter at the end. It really made my day because I hurt my back a few days before.

Ski Adventure Photos Utah

For a few months during the winter I worked up at the Canyons Ski Resort in Park City Ut. I had alot of fun being up on the mountian every day getting my ski on. It was a challenging photography job being out in the cold on skis with all your gear. The sunny days were amazing but the cold days we weren't as busy and you would just stand there in the cold... wanna get your photo... give me something to do?! I loved meeting people from all around the world. At the end of the day I had no energy and was ready for bed. Better be in good shape to try this adventure. It also made me think of other adventure photography jobs I could take- work on a cruise ship maybe, travel the world.
It was so beautiful love it! I'll probably pick up next season for the ski pass & adventure :)

Dave Tate is from Salt Lake City Ut and Victoria Lagerström is from Sweden. Victoria came to Utah and they got engaged within two weeks then got married a few months later. They both are extremely talented musicians. I am honored to collaborate with them to create their Album cover and a video journal of their story. They both are such beautiful beings. Friends for Life, Michael Spence Film

Right after completing Animals and erotic horror thriller I worked on Friends for Life, which is PG rated. It’s a family feature with love an angel, wolves and bears. Starring Michael Flynn and Jimmy Chunga. It was quite the contrast of content and general vibe on set. On Animals there seemed to be a lot more pressure in the ranks of command, communication hiccups, every title & job was very defined, and the crew was generally in a less then optimistic mood. On Friends for Life the crew and cast were very mellow, very helpful, and in good spirits. The pressure arose with the Animals on set. The human society was there along with several trainers and at the beginning of the day they told us that there is a chance that you could be eaten. Outside of Heber UT, in the woods, the set had and electrical wire around the perimeter to protect the cast & crew from the beers and wolves. We were not allowed to have any food or drinks other then water on set. Any strong scents were highly discouraged. No sudden movements were allowed either. Which was difficult for me because I’m used to bouncing around grabbing different angles.
First out was Bart the Beer JR. Bart is a famous movie beer. His tricks were similar to tricks for a dog. Stand, sit, growl, & play. The trainers had such good rapport with Bart that it was easy to forget that Bart could take overtake the crew and cause some serious havoc. The wolves came out next. The wolves looked like dogs but their movement and eyes were wild. The way they looked at you made you feel like lunch. The wolves were sketched out when first coming onto set because of the smells of Bart, meat, and the crew. The trainers were a lot more on edge with the wolves. The wolves would get out of the electrical line perimeter a couple of times and no one was allowed to move until the wolves were ceased. The human society lady was on me like white on rice, instilling fear into me because I was the “smallest” and moved the most. She said I would be the likely candidate for lunch. On this particular take the wolves were running from point a to b and the cameraman was in the middle doing a scan within the electrical wire perimeter. I was originally right next to him but the human society lady moved me out. One of the wolves, Shadow, got out and went straight for me sniffing the ground. I stood there and pretended to be a tree. It was scary “I could be eaten” but it also an adrenaline rush. The trainers quickly recovered shadow. It was humbling being around the animals and exciting at the same time.
After reviewing the pictures the first day there were a few shots of the wolves where they looked like they were going to eat me. The next day I was much more still in my movements around the wolves.

It was a great experience working on crew with familiar faces McKay Daines, Ron Hill, Jimmy Chunga, & Michael Flynn. Good times. I had a conversation with the assistant director Bob Conder about the different vibes on the two sets Animals & Friends for Life. He said that what he found in his experience that the content of the script whether its happy or not passes the vibe onto the crew. Which makes perfect sense.

Animals The Movie

Plot Summary
Syd Jarrett (Marc Blucas) is an unsuspecting, down-and-out man in a washed-up hick town whose life is turned upside down when the drop-dead gorgeous Nora (Nicki Aycox) walks through the door of the local bar. Jarrett's passion for Nora leads him peripherally into a sub-culture of animals where he encounters Vic (Naveen Andrews), a renegade whose animal instincts are stronger than his human ones. As things begin to get even worse, Jarrett realizes that his best chance for happiness, and survival, lies in his true love for Jane (Eva Amurri).

This was an interesting project to be apart of. To summarize it was full of Erotic Blood, Sex, Animals, & horror. This was my first experience on a Movie Stage, which was intriguing to watch how they get the shots and dose doe the locations around for shooting. The most memorable was when we were outside of Kennecott shooting nights. For rain scenes they used over 135,000 gallons of water. We got to blow up cars at 5:30 am. We were also at this abandoned cement factory in downtown Salt Lake, which was incredible miserable. It was 110 degrees outside and inside it was at least 115 degrees. Everyone was sweaty, stinky, dirty, grumpy and zapped by the heat.

I learned a lot, met great people and slept for a few weeks after it was over.

There was some controversy in the news about the filming of Animals in Utah. Its not your typical Utah film because of its Erotic Horror thriller blood and steamy sex. It was the first film to be turned down for funding by the Utah Motion Picture Incentive Fund.

Pictures from this adventure need to go through the approval chain of command before I post. So stay tuned.

Red Canyon the Movie...adventures in the Desert.

The Film was written by Laura Pratt and Giovanni Rodriguez. The producers include Laura Pratt, Nicole Abisinio, Mike Dungan, and Giovanni Rodriquez. The Director of Photography Sonnel Valezquez.

Red Canyon is a psychological horror thriller with actors Christine Lakin (Regina), Norman Reedus (Mac), Noah Fliess (Harley), Justin Hartely ( Tom), Tim Draxi(Devon), Ankhur Bhatt (Samir), Katie Maguire (Terra). The Director of Photography Sonnel Valezquez.

Natalie Cass Utah Movie Photographer goes on adventure in the Southern Utah in the desolate Desert. Natalie did the behind the scenes photography, Behind the scenes video, and Cast interviews for the production.

My account of the Experience: A month in the Desert
“ It was a full crazy experience working on Red Canyon. Being out in the Desert in extreme heat, 12-17 hr days/nights, 6 day weeks, taxing terrain, isolation, intense and vile locations, along with the well written warped script made it challenging on all levels. The landscape is truly breathtakingly beautiful and changes frequently. The natural lighting along with the landscape was the best part. The crew came up with a name for this place The Republic of Caineville. There is a behind the scenes skit about how the Republic of Caineville came to be. The paper plates found on the Pratt Farm near the old school house. In the Republic of Caineville there is no god, no santa clause, no law, no gas station, no traffic, no contact with the outside world, no plumbing(two days without water), no caption over time, no labor day, no food, no safety, no laundry mat, no reason. There is alot of bugs, extreme heat, solitude, alcohol, drugs, one girl (me!) bats at the pool, coyotes, suicidal bunnies, humming birds, moths the size of my hand, the landscape is extremely beautiful and unforgiving resembles life on the Moon. At the end the cast and crew got t-shirts that said The Republic of Caineville.
The crew & cast really bonded being down there together. We were all at the same hotels and spent all day and night together. I got to know almost everyone on the crew, which rarely happens on Films. The crew was extremely talented in every department. These are the people to be stuck in the desert working on a film with. We all made lifetime friendships.
The most vile place I have ever worked in was this house in the middle of nowhere desert that production bought for the bad guys house(MAC). It has been uninhabited for 15-20 years and was rotting. When the art department got there they found a dead goat in one of the bedrooms with rats and miscellaneous animal feces all over the house. The goat and rats were cleared out by the time we were filming there. The dead goat head was left in the kitchen as a prop. We had face masks for breathing and I was still dry heaving. The grounds were weird. There was at least 15 upside down cars & trucks that had been stripped with pieces everywhere. It was an eerie dump yard on the moon lite with. This was the last night of shooting and I was relieved not to have to go to that place again.
Getting back to society was a shift. It was weird being around mass’s of people again and being in the city. I went to the spa two days in a row and slept for 2 weeks.
You may leave the desert but the desert will never leave you. The experience changed my life. Things that used to be crazy are no longer crazy. If I completed that job I can do anything! I am grateful for the experience and for the friendships I made.“

I posted this on youtube.com just to show maybe two people the video clip from a Pigeon Racing job I did in TX with Raychel Deppe. On youtube, The video has received international attention from Pigeon Racing Fanciers.

The purpose of photographing the Pigeon Eye is so one can see the details of the Eye. Formally it is call the Eye Sign Like a tree trunk with year rings of history so is the Pigeon Eye. It is the key to see the heritage of the racier and any key performance data characteristics. Pigeon raciers will purchase birds anywhere from $100- $150,000. The photos I provide are profile shots of the bird and a photo of the Eye Sign. Raciers use the photos for publicity and to sale the birds.

Yes I do wedding photography! Here are some samples from a wedding I did in March for McKay Daines & Gina Gay. I worked on McKay's movie Heber Holiday and he was impressed enough with my photography that he asked me to cover his wedding.

It's interesting to me the beginning of coverage of any event. The people all look at the photographer like we're the enemy or the poperazzi. Sometimes I feel awkward because of this stigma. However I know that by the end of the event that the people often view the photographer like the janitor, just there doing their job. A lot of times I don't know people before covering such events and am exposed to their inner personal lives and most precious moments. I'm right there as an observer anticipating those moments that are priceless. The emotion in the room is so thick you could slice with a knife.
This particular wedding, the ceremony took place on some stairs that faced the reception room. I was behind the action between the Bishop, the couple and the audience. This moment the couple was listening to their song being played. I wanted to get a picture of them kissing. So I quietly asked them to kiss. I didn't get the image I wanted so I asked them to do it again. The whole audience laughed as he took his new wife in his arms. It was silly.

I also like playing with kids. They are always so excited to do "cool" things for photographs. We did a few different series of them throwing rose petals up in the air.

I am teaming up with a video-grapher Strillogy films , makeup artist and Dave Tate (original music) to create wedding packages for couples in the SLC Valley. The website should be up here in a few weeks.

Ring of Fire! Ultimate Fighting

My good friend Chad Klingensmith is a professional fighter. When I lived in CO last year I did a series of fighting images for his public fighter image.

This boy does some serious training. Its a around the clock commitment for your body and mind. He went to Thailand to train with the best of his sport.
He was injured in the last few months fighter and was unable to fight in this particular adventure. He invited me to be a spectator. Naturally I get bored as an artist and want to be front in center with the sweat and the punches.
I wasn't technically suppose to be up there. There was another photographer that didn't see eye to eye with me. He told on me so I had to go.
I contacted ROF and they actually enjoyed the images and published them.

This one is my favorite because of audience dude's expression.

Midnight Mirage " Belly Dancing with a Twist"

Since September I have been attending Belly Dancing classes at the Midnight Mirage in Bountiful. Belly dancing is something I do as a stress reliever. For a few months you learn a dance then you perform with your Dance squad. I didn't do dance growing up so it was very exciting for me. My teacher is the 2004 Belly Dancer of the Universe.
I remember the first time I attended class and I was in full bewilderment of how they move their bodies.
Learning dance has actually helped with my photography. I understand body movement more and know how to direct it better. I recommend any photographer, painter, observer of movement to take dance. Incorporating any dance movement into your exercise routine is fun and will increase your energy level.

Adventures in Park City

It was the last Saturday night of the Sundance Film Festival. My good friend Cori had a house party right off of Main Street. Whats fun about parties in park city is the international audience that attends the activities. He had a band ViG jamming in his front room. I was impressed with their music and ended up doing stand up with their guitarist Justin.
Outside there was a full moon and a clear sky, ad it was wicked cold. It was beautiful. There was a bomb fire that was 10 feet wide. The was even a Fire guy.

Dave Tate & Colin Robinson Local Music Legends

Local musicians Dave Tate & Colin Robinson get their jam on during the Sundance Film Festival. Their music touches the artists soul. Its a acoustic guitar jamming mix. His style kinda reminds me of Jack Johnson.
I was having a stressful day when I was listening to them live and it put me at ease. Dave is collaborating with Colin and most recently Victoria Lagerstrom on a few different albums. I will join them on collaborating with photography and events.
I recommend their music live any day!

Road Trip to LA from SLC with Lisa Smith

It takes a lot of bananas to stop your current life, the job, the relationship, the friends, the city, whats familiar and move across the country. My good friend Lisa Smith was located in Manhattan, NYC and relocated to L.A. She had all the commodities of comfort and the drag of routine. She is currently producing a documentary about Rodeo Groupies. Across the country she has traveled with a team including myself to find the people that make the story. She ventures to L.A to get funding for the project.
Lisa asked me to join in on the road trip adventure from SLC to LA. My friends know you don't have to twist my arm to do an adventure. Our lives have always had a strange parallel. We both go through dramatic changes within days of each other. Shed the old skin and embrace the new chapter. It's going to be great!
Being on the road felt like Thema & Louis with a chihuahua. Except we didn't kill anyone and there was no cops involved.
Driving through death valley I decided that we should stop on this abandoned road to do a photo shoot. Lisa needed head shots- why not in the middle of the desert? We get off the exit and the remains of a gas station from the 30's was desolate and alone. On the other side of the road was this old truck with at least 30 crows. The place felt like death and like walking in a horror movie. We drive on to past this place up a desert road and stopped. The place felt like at any moment a redneck was going to bust out with a shot gun.
